Newton knew business

Isaac Newton

Isaac Newton was more than just a big brain and magnificent hair.

He knew his business.

His First Law of Motion.
Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.

His Second Law.
F=ma
The relationship between an object’s mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma.
(His genius – you must take into account all forces, which include minute frictional forces.)

His Third Law.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Each of these can be applied to business.

His First Law.
If you always do what you’ve always done (uniform motion), you’ll always get what you’ve always got.
Or.
If you want to change your luck, do something different.

His Second Law.
Even the biggest business can slowly grind to a halt because of the seemingly inconsequential forces affecting the business.

His Third Law.
Whatever you do has a consequence.
Actions matter. Good ideas are only good ideas if they’re actionable.

As in the universe, so in business.
Energy is your friend.
Focused energy is the secret to changing the universe (and your business).
Yes, business is about people. And human behaviour is even less predictable than atomic movement. But the big rules remain true.

When in doubt, act.

Apply a little pressure. Remove the friction. Make the call.

Make the call.
